We’ve already reported on the exciting new releases coming this month, and the list of upcoming games in 2019 as a whole look super exciting. This could be the best year ever for gaming.
Below, we’ve listed the top 25 upcoming games in 2019 that we’re most excited to get our hands on.
Every game in this list has some sort of confirmation of their release date and we haven’t included any that are TBC, even if they are awesome.
Animal Crossing
Nintendo Switch — 2019
There isn’t an exact release day yet, but Animal Crossing coming to the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2019 is a big deal for fans of the game. In the trailer above, beloved character Tom Nook tells viewers that he’s sure “everyone will be tuckered out after all that camping and smashing.” Brilliant as we know it’s a clear reference to Animal Crossing character Isabelle joining the roster in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Anthem
PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One — February 22
Developed by legendary storyteller BioWare, Anthem has been significantly delayed in the past, but now has a set release date. Fans weren’t happy about all the delays, however, judging by the recent trailers, the wait should be worth it. Anthem will be a third-person multiplayer shooter in which players will explore an open world filled with exciting missions, public events, and compelling storytelling. With the help of publisher Electronic Arts, this is BioWare’s chance to redeem its legacy after the sub-standard reviews that Mass Effect Andromeda received in 2017.
Biomutant
PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One — 2019
Imagine an exotic world that’s free of humans but filled with furry little animals. Now imagine all the animals as badass warriors armed to the teeth with swords, guns, jetpacks, and other strange weaponry. That’s Biomutant.
In this 3rd-person action-RPG, you’ll play as a badass animal in an open-world adventure that looks undeniably fresh and original.
Crackdown 3
Windows PC and Xbox One — February 15
Legendary Nintendo developer Shigeru Miyamoto once said “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad” … The team behind Crackdown 3 seem to agree. According to developer Microsoft, all this extra time working on this long-awaited game will be worth it. So prepare for another satisfying, chaotic romp through an open-world city that’s as detailed as it is destructible.
Days Gone
PlayStation 4 — April 26
Days Gone looks like an awesome combination of Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead. It’s yet another (we’re not complaining) open-world game coming in 2019 that’s one part action-adventure and one part survival horror. Days Gone is being developed by a studio called SIE– the very same studio responsible for the legendary Siphon Filter franchise!
Devil May Cry 5
PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One — March 8
Capcom’s over-the-top series returns for yet another round of fast-paced demon slaying. A new character named “V” will also be joining the fray in Devil May Cry 5. V has the power to summon different animals, and, like the main character Dante, can unleash powerful supernatural attacks.
The Division 2
PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One — March 15
This eagerly awaited sequel promises to be an even bigger and better action-RPG than the first game. The Division 2 takes place in the same post-apocalyptic scenario, but the setting is the U.S capitol of Washington D.C this time. Seven months have passed since the events of the first game, and the snowy wastes have changed to a sweltering, hot urban wasteland. Whether you group up with others or try to survive alone, there’s promised to be more endgame content in The Division 2.
DOOM Eternal
PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One — 2019
Doom is a franchise that needs no introduction. It is the godfather of First Person Shooters and has had an influence on every one of them since the first game in the franchise released in 1993. Returning in 2016, “Doom” was a reboot of the original title, and it has breathed new life into the series. Doom Eternal plans to double-down on the success of the reboot. As demons have begun to invade Earth, the Doom Slayer (you) is once again humanity’s only hope.
Far Cry New Dawn
PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One — February 15
Far Cry New Dawn will take place in post-apocalyptic “Hope County”, the same location as Far Cry 5. The setting of New Dawn is a big hint on what one of the options was at the end of Far Cry 5. Now, 17 years have passed and society has begun to rebuild. But there are two groups (and two violent warlords) with very different perspectives in Hope County.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Nintendo Switch — Spring 2019
Three Houses is the 16th entry in the Fire Emblem series, but this title is a huge deal as the first Fire Emblem game on a Nintendo console in over a decade! The game will still be a tactical RPG, but will now feature larger confrontations and new 3D battle arenas. Outside of combat, the story will focus on four main characters (Edelgard, Byleth, Claude and Dimitri) in a fully rendered world.
Gears 5
Xbox One and Windows PC — 2019
In Gears 5 you’ll work to find the truth behind the deadly Locust invasion as Kait Diaz but don’t worry, HD and Marcus Fenix will be right by her side. The series that helped define modern, 3rd-person shooters will return again with loads of brutal weapons, rugged vehicles, and monstrous enemies.
Kingdom Hearts 3
PlayStation 4 and Xbox One — January 29
Fans have been waiting years for this moment. Kingdom Hearts 3 is actually happening, and it’s actually releasing this month! Join Sora, a boy with powers greater than he knows, and his companions as they try to stop an evil force from destroying the universe. Kingdom Hearts 3 is set in both the Pixar and Disney universe so expect to see some familiar faces along the way.
Left Alive
PlayStation 4 and Windows PC — March 5
If you’re a Metal Gear fan, this is a game that should be on your radar. Left Alive is also a game that could make up for some of the disappointment you may have been feeling recently… The character designer from the Metal Gear series, the mech designer behind Gundam and Xenoblade, and FromSoftware’s director or Chromehouds are all working on this action shooter. With a development team that star-studded, it should be hard for this game to be anything but a success.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order
Nintendo Switch — 2019
This is one of those upcoming games in 2019 that alone, might make a lot of people go out and buy a Switch. The Black Order, a Nintendo exclusive in the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series, will be a big deal if this game is as good as the first two in the series. The game will feature a wide selection of Avengers, X-Men, and Guardians of the galaxy, along with other lesser-known Marvel heroes. Oh, and of course there will be plenty of villains to fight as well.
Metro Exodus
PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One — February 15
If you’re new to the Metro series, then prepare to experience one of the most epic first-person shooters. This newest title will have you fleeing the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow in search of a new home for you and your fellow survivors. Inspired by the novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky, you’ll journey on a year of survival in Moscow’s wastelands and wilderness. The seasons will change, and so will you by the end of your mission in Metro Exodus.
Mortal Kombat 11
Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One — April 23
From the trailer above, Mortal Kombat 11 looks like it’ll bring us more of the gory combat we know and love. And, from recent news on this upcoming title, we know that MK11 will feature much, much more. As well as a brand new game engine, Mortal Kombat 11 will feature a new fatality system, customisation system and a greater focus on multiplayer.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Windows PC and Xbox One — 2019
If it’s anything like Ori and the Blind Forest, this sequel could be both award-winning, and awe-inspiring. A follow-up to one of the best platformers in recent years, Ori and the Will of the Wisps will take players on a new adventure beyond the forest of Nibel. It all comes to discovering the truth behind the lost ones and fulfil Ori’s destiny. The one thing that is guaranteed to be different about Will of the Wisps is that it will be a Microsoft exclusive.
The Outer Worlds
PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One — 2019
Developer “Obsidian”, responsible for some of the most memorable RPGs of all time, were acquired by Microsoft studios. This combination could be incredible for gamers, especially those disappointed with Fallout 76. You see, Obsidian was behind Fallout: New Vegas, the Fallout game that many fans feel is truest to the roots of the series. The Outer Worlds could prove to be the closest thing to a “Fallout 5” that many players were looking for.
Rage 2
PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One — May 14
Although developed by legendary studio id Software (responsible for DOOM, Quake), and published by Bethesda, the original Rage didn’t get the attention it deserved. Rage 2 looks to change that. The colours are vibrant, the characters are over-the-top, and the gameplay looks like the tight FPS action that we know and love from id Software. There appears to be a lot more humour thrown into the mix, too, in this Mad Max-inspired post-apocalyptic romp.
Resident Evil 2
PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One — January 25
Resident Evil 2 has returned in this beautiful reimagining of the 1998 horror masterpiece. Claire Redfield (an innocent college student) joins rookie police officer Leon Kennedy as they fight to survive in the heart of a mysterious zombie outbreak in Racoon City.
This horror classic has been totally remastered while staying true to the original experience that popularised the Resident Evil series. And an all-new immersive camera mode lets you enjoy all the bloody, flesh ripping detail!
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One — March 22
FromSoftware, the creators of the Dark Souls series, bring you an all-new story and world to explore in Sekiro. In Shadows Die Twice you play as a battered and broken warrior known as the “one-armed wolf”. You’re on the brink of death, but today is not the day you’ll die. The time has come to hone your skills, reclaim your honour, and take vengeance on those who betrayed you. Set in a beautiful reimagining of Sengoku Japan in the 1500s, Sekiro hopes to puts you in the middle of a constant battle between life and death.
Skull & Bones
PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One — 2019
Produced by Ubisoft Singapore, Skull & Bones is an upcoming pirate-themed tactical action game. Pirates – a genre that we definitely need more of! Skull & Bones will feature both a single player campaign and multiplayer mode, offering a variety of missions and PvP action in each. To put it simply, Skull and Bones looks to be a combination of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Sea of Thieves.
Untitled Goose Game
Mac, Nintendo Switch and Windows PC — Early 2019
The game actually does have a title, and that’s it. The goose is loose! In this game, you’re a goose, and the goal is to cause as much trouble as you can for the human beings around you. You can expect gameplay that’s just as cheeky as the title (or un-title) of this indie offering. One of those upcoming games in 2019 that should be on everyone’s must-have list.
Wolfenstein: Youngblood
PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox One — 2019
In Wolfenstien’s fictional timeline, Youngblood takes place 19 years after the events of The New Colossus. In a 1980’s America liberated from Nazi rule, meet the Jess and Soph, the twin daughters of B.J. Blazkowicz (the hero of the first games). It’s time for them to free their father from the evil hands of the ever-persistent Nazis.
Yoshi’s Crafted World
Nintendo Switch — Spring 2019
Of all the upcoming games in 2019, we’re happiest about this one because Yoshi is finally getting his…her…its own game for the Nintendo Switch. Yoshi’s Crafted World looks to add new depth and perspective to the typical two-dimensional platformer experience. Hopefully, this iconic character’s game will be like other Nintendo offerings… full of whimsical, child-like charm, but filled with gameplay that would challenge adults.
