Red Dead Redemption 2 is nominated for 8 categories in the Game Awards this year, and now, this likely Game of the Year 2018 is about to get even better with the Red Dead Online Beta launch.
Jump online and saddle up
The beta for RDR2’s new multiplayer mode “Red Dead Online” opens today, giving players a brand new way to experience the game. We’ll have more on what you can expect from Red Dead Online Beta further down the page, but from Rockstar’s description in an interview with IGN it sounds like even more exciting wild west action:
“head out hunting or fishing; visit bustling towns; battle enemy gangs and attack their hideouts; hunt for treasure; take on missions and interact with familiar characters from across the five states; or fight against other outlaws in both spontaneous skirmishes and pitched set-piece battles; compete with other players or whole Posses in open world challenges and much more.”
When can you play the Red Dead Online Beta?
If you own a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS4 or Xbox One you automatically get access to both the beta and the full release of Red Dead Online. To help their servers deal with the massive influx of bandits and outlaws, Rockstar Games is rolling out beta over a few days. Here’s when you can first join in depending on which version of the game you own:
- Ultimate Edition owners can join on November 27
- Those that played Red Dead Redemption 2 on October 26th (release day) can join on November 28
- Anyone that played Red Dead Redemption 2 between October 26th and 29th can join on November 29
- Everyone’s invited from November 30
What to Expect in the Red Dead Online Beta
Red Dead Online is still a bit of a mystery right now. However, Rockstar revealed that this new mode will borrow quite a bit from GTA Online. Red Dead Online will expand on the gameplay of RDR2’s single player. Expect the game to constantly evolve with new content. This could be for years to come if GTA Online is anything to go by. As Rockstar puts it, Red Dead Online will be “an evolution of the classic multiplayer experience in the original Red Dead Redemption, blending narrative with competitive and cooperative gameplay in fun new ways.”
