September is starting off strong for Xbox Game Pass members, especially those of the “Ultimate” variety. Hot on the heels of Devil May Cry 5 comes seven exciting additions to the playable catalogue. And, as you may have noticed in this post’s title, there is a second helping of games coming later in the month.

Dead Cells
5th September (Xbox One, PC with Game Pass Ultimate)
Dead Cells is a Metroid-Vania type game (Metroid + Castlevania) that has some rogue-like elements (think: Diablo, Enter the Gungeon, FTL). So the developers are calling it “RogueVania”.
You’ll need to learn to predict your enemies’ moves, discover monsters’ weaknesses, and practice levels to conquer Dead Cells. What was impossible at first will soon become easy, and you get that unique rush of accomplishment that only comes from such a challenging game.
Metal Gear Solid HD Edition: 2 & 3
5th September (Xbox One only)
Relive two of the best stealth-action games of all time in HD! This Metal Gear Solid collection includes next-gen remasters of Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater– the latter being many fans’ favourite game in the series. Both titles feature enhanced graphics, revamped menu systems, and the same gripping story.
Creature in the Well
6th September (Xbox One, PC with Game Pass Ultimate)
Available on Game Pass the same day it releases, Creature in the Well is one of the many indie titles born out of a collaboration with Microsoft Studios. This unique game is a top-down hack-and-slash brawler that features gameplay inspired by pinball! Armed with a sword, you’ll crawl through dungeons charging-up, bouncing, and ricocheting energy orbs to skilfully defeat your enemies.
Gears 5 Ultimate Edition
6th September for Game Pass Ultimate members on Xbox One and PC (Standard Edition available September 10 for Xbox Game Pass members)
In Gears 5 you’ll work to discover the truth behind the deadly Locust invasion as Kait Diaz. But don’t worry, HD and Marcus Fenix will be right by her side! The series that helped to define modern, 3rd-person shooters will return again with loads of brutal weapons, rugged vehicles, and monstrous enemies.
Gears 5 features the most expansive campaign yet, 5 exciting cooperative game modes, and many exclusive bonuses (including early access and Halo: Reach character pack) when you play with the Ultimate edition. This special version is available on its own or with Game Pass Ultimate for Xbox One and PC.
Enter the Gungeon
12th September (Xbox One, PC with Game Pass Ultimate)
Some call it a “bullet hell”, others call it a gunfight dungeon crawler– we call it a blast to play!
In Enter the Gungeon you’ll shoot, dodge, roll, table-flip, and loot your way through hordes of enemies toward your ultimate goal: “the gun that can kill the past”. Play solo or group up with a friend for some co-op action.
Gonner: Blüeberry Edition
12th September (Xbox One, PC with Game Pass Ultimate)
Gonner is another ID@Xbox collaboration that has received critical acclaim since it released last year.
This 2D platformer offers a twisted, bizarre, and extremely difficult experience. Explore procedurally generated levels as the misunderstood character “Ikk” on your journey to cheer up your only friend in the world– a beached whale named “Sally”. The Blueberry Edition adds new weapons, enemy types, visuals, and much more.
Bad North: Jotuun Edition
TBD September (PC with Game Pass Ultimate)
Bad North may look charming, but it’s oh so brutal. Behind the simple aesthetic is a complex, real-time tactics experience.
In Bad North, you’ll attempt to defend your peaceful island notion against vicious baddies from the north– Vikings! The Jotunn Edition adds a massive amount of new content to the game, further enhancing the depth and player flexibility.
Shadow Warrior 2
TBD September (PC with Game Pass Ultimate)
The first Shadow Warrior title appeared on Xbox Game Pass last year, and now its sequel has arrived. If you’re in the mood for even more over-the-top gunplay and katana slicing, look no further than Shadow Warrior 2. This game brings even more blood, guts, and ultra-violence than the first game in the series.
