Top 10 | Video Game Easter Eggs

Nothing says “Happy Easter” like some incredible Easter eggs. The chocolate kind, yes, but also the kind that puts a smile on the faces of gamers everywhere. We’re talking about the Easter eggs found hidden away in video games!

If you don’t know what Easter eggs are (in the gaming sense), they’re basically an intentional joke, hidden message, image or secret feature found in a game that hasn’t been publicised by the developer. It’s there for you to find while playing, just like a classic Easter egg hunt.

Here’s a top 10 list of our favourite video game Easter eggs. Share yours in the comments!

Easter Eggs

10: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – Literally, An Easter Egg

GTA: Vice City in Top 10 Easter Eggs

First up, Rockstar trolls us with an actual Easter egg! Players can find this in the VCN building in the northern end of Vice City, adjacent to a smaller building with a helipad on top. If you jump from the helipad through the VCN building’s nearest window, it leads you into this room with the Easter egg.

The best thing is the egg is also featured in the same place in Vice City Stories, but as the game is a prequel, it’s still under construction!

9: Star Wars Battlefront II – Stormtrooper Hits His Head

If you’re a Star Wars fan, you’ll know about the infamous part of the movie where a Stormtrooper bumps his head on a door. What you might not know is that they pay homage to this in Battlefront 2 where a Stormtrooper hits his head on some stairs (watch the video above – you’ll see what we mean).

They may be a fearsome army, but the Stormtroopers are clumsy.

8: Gears of War 2 – Cowboy Corpser

Gears of War 2 in Top 10 Easter Eggs

Bizarre but funny Easter eggs can be found everywhere in Gears of War but this is probably the best one in the series. If you shoot three cowboy hats in the mission “Rolling Thunder”, you’ll get cowboy hats for your whole team!

It doesn’t stop there though – The giant spider/crab creature you face later in the game is also sporting a cowboy hat and lets out a “yeehaw” before attacking you… American Southern hospitality indeed.

7: Hitman: Blood Money – Party Guests Strip Down

Hitman: Blood Money in Top 10 Easter Eggs

Work hard, party hard! Something even Agent 47 believes in.

In Hitman: Blood Money’s “Till Death Do Us Part” mission, you’ll end up in the middle of some party guests having a scuffle. However, if you walk over to the water and shoot the little gold disc in the fountain, you’ll see the guests are all in their underwear and running towards you clapping. When the clapping stops, they start fighting again. Have you been to a party like that?

If you’re in the mood to play some classic games but you don’t have the console to play them on, fear not with this quirky Easter egg found in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

If you shoot the heads off all the mannequins found on the Nuke Town map, you’ll be rewarded with emulated versions of Activision’s Atari 2600 games, including Pitfall and River Raid.

Worth it for the tough challenge? We think so!

Beware of assassins, they can be anywhere and anyone… Even any species!

In Assassin’s Creed 3, if you whistle at a specific homestead then you’ll get a turkey to come to you.

When the turkey comes over, do the classic Konami code: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A.

Super awesome transformation… And we have Assassin Turkey complete with an assassin hood and the will to fight for justice. Templars, beware!

1: Batman: Arkham Asylum – Plans to Arkham City

Batman: Arkham Asylum in Top 10 Easter Eggs

What could be better than an Easter egg of a potential sequel? We’d argue, nothing!

This tease to Arkham City was well hidden behind the destructible wall in the Warden’s office in Arkham Asylum… So well hidden in fact, that the developers themselves had to reveal the Easter egg after six months of blissful ignorance. Thanks, Rocksteady.
