During a live-streamed event on Thursday, legendary publisher Capcom delivered a new trailer and confirmed the release date of the 8th mainline entry in the Resident Evil series. Plus, in celebration of the survival horror franchise turning 25 this year, a new online multiplayer game is on the way. Entitled Resident Evil Re:Verse, it will be included with every purchase of Resident Evil Village.
New Trailer and Details
First announced last year during a PS5 hype event, Resident Evil Village now has a slated release date of May 7th 2021. It will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
In addition, Thursday’s event also gave us a deeper look at the story and world of the series’ 8th mainline entry. The trailer above provides a look at Resident Evil Village’s foreboding castle setting, a taste of the terrifying first-person gameplay, and a glimpse of the demonic figures we’ll face off against this Spring.
We already know that protagonist Ethan from RE7 makes a return in Village; as will Mia and another well known Resident Evil character. We also know that Resident Evil Village will take place 7 years after the events of the previous game; and that it will be even more action-oriented. Resident Evil Re: Verse
According to publisher Capcom, Resident Evil Re:Verse was “created as a thank you to fans for the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil series.” What better way to celebrate such a milestone than an online multiplayer game featuring beloved Resident Evil characters in a 6-person deathmatch?
The usual suspects will make an appearance in RE:Verse. Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, Leon Kennedy, Ada Wong, and others will be there. As will AI enemies like the Molded from RE7 and the Hunter Gamma from RE3. As for the combat arena, players will return to the Racoon City Police Department building to battle to the death. (The version that appeared in the 2018 remake of RE2)
If this all sounds too good, strange, or unbelievable to be true… just check out the trailer above. Resident Evil Re:Verse will release alongside Village on May 7th as a free bonus.
