What Is Star Wars Outlaws About?

Star Wars Outlaws lets you step into the boots of a cunning and resourceful galactic scoundrel navigating a world of smugglers, bounty hunters, and rebels. The game centers around the playable character Kay Vess, her droid friend ND-5, and a Merquaal companion who’s an integral part of the gameplay loop.

The story follows Kay as she navigates the dangerous underworld of the Outer Rim, struggling for freedom, fortune, and to pull off “one of the greatest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen” (according to producer Ubisoft). Along with your crew (and trusty blaster), players will make deals with some of the galaxy’s most notorious crime syndicates, and explore open worlds filled with diverse planets, bustling cities, and treacherous landscapes; each brimming with opportunities for both heroism and deceit.

I mean how does that not sound incredibly fun?

How Does Outlaws Fit into the Star Wars Timeline?

Set between the events of “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi”. The empire is at its peak, and they are well aware of Kay and her cohort’s illegal activity in the Outer Rim. But this story isn’t told from the Empire’s perspective, nor the Jedi’s or the Sith. As the game’s narrative director explained, Outlaws brings something entirely new to the Star Wars universe:

We always knew we wanted to create an original scoundrel story. There was something exciting about looking at [this universe] from the perspective of a scoundrel like Kay, who has no experience with the Empire, Jedi, Rebellion or the Sith.

Will I Recognize Any of the Locations in Outlaws?

Yes! I’m incredibly hyped to announce that– yes! You will.

We’ve already seen Kijimi in a trailer (The Rise of Skywalker), and have gotten a glimpse of what looks like Canto Blight (The Last Jedi). Many more locations and general references to the Star Wars legacy should be up Owtlaws’s sleeves. Hopefully podracing!!

Lightsabers? Not sure yet. But stay tuned! We’ll have an answer for you very soon after launch.

So Does it Play Like RDR or GTA in Space?

Set across multiple planets in the Star Wars galaxy, Outlaws allows players to freely explore diverse environments ranging from bustling cities to remote wildernesses. Each planet has its own unique atmosphere, quests, and secrets to discover. You can travel between these planets using your starship, engaging in space combat and evading Imperial patrols.

Combat in Star Wars Outlaws combines third-person shooting with strategic elements. Players can use a variety of blasters, gadgets, and stealth tactics to take down enemies, ranging from Imperial forces to rival criminals.

And as far as story, Star Wars Outlaws promises to deliver a rich narrative experience where choices matter, allowing players to shape Kay’s path as they decide whether to follow a code of honor or embrace the life of an outlaw.

Cool, But Can I Go From Planet to Space in My Ship?

Yes– Space travel is seamless; allowing for smooth transitions between planetary surfaces and space, and of course, further exploration of said space). Like navigating asteroid fields, engaging in space dogfights, and smuggling goods across the galaxy.

Is There Multiplayer?

Nope. Outlaws is a 3rd person, open-world, action-adventure game that’s strictly a single-player experience.

The game emphasizes storytelling, character development, and the freedom to explore an open world at your own pace, without the inclusion of multiplayer modes or online features… at least at launch.

Will Star Wars Outlaws have Post Launch DLC?

Publisher Ubisoft has promised two additional narrative expansions coming after launch, and the Season Pass is one way to secure access (along with an exclusive Day 1 mission with Jabba).

In Fall 2024, the “Wild Card” DLC will drop,  in which Kay is hired to infiltrate a high-stakes Sabacc tournament, but as she crosses paths with the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, she soon learns that another game is being played.” And in Spring 2025, we’ll see the return of Hondo Ohnaka (Clone Wars) in “A Pirate’s Fortune” DLC.

Pick up the Gold or Ultimate editions of the game to add all this content and much more.

How Many Hours to Complete Star Wars Outlaws?

Short on time? With Silent Hill 2, Starfield’s “Shattered Space” expansion, Black Ops 6, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard all dropping very, very soon… we totally understand.

Outlaws will take around 25-30 hours to complete, according to the game’s creative director, and completionists are looking at around 50-60 hours. However, we’re not sure if this is taking into account the many many houses that will be spent on customizing ships and speeders.
