2023 will be a tough act to follow. Resident Evil 4, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Tears of the Kingdom (among many others) made the past year one of the best ever for gaming. See the list of the Game Awards winners/nominees if you need to jog your memory.
Nevertheless, 2024 could maybe… top it?
We’re still holding out hope for a surprise announcement confirming the long-awaited new Fable, Dragon Age, or Metroid game for next year… But until then, we’ve hopped on the hype train for the 24 games below with already slated release dates in 2024.
Be sure to check out the CDKeys Coming Soon selection to save some cash on all your 2024 pre-orders.
Ark 2
2024
First up, we have Ark: Survival Evolved. This sequel to the hugely popular MMO undoubtedly has big expectations from its dedicated fanbase. We assume that that’s what drove developer/producer Studio Wildcard’s decision to push back their sequel to 2024.
We’re looking forward to another expansive and visually stunning experience. One in which players can anticipate a mix of survival mechanics, crafting, and co-op multiplayer gameplay; all set in a primal world filled with dinosaurs and humans struggling for control. I mean, how does that not sound awesome?
Alone in the Dark
March 20, 2024
Publisher THQ Nordic squeezed in one more delay earlier this month when they delayed one of the most eagerly anticipated horror games from January to March ’24. Nevertheless, we’re still super hyped about this reimagination of a 90s cult classic.
Set in the haunted Derceto mansion in 1920s Louisiana, Alone in the Dark drops players into the role of private investigator Edward Carnby and his task to investigate “strange occurrences” in an eerie manor. As players explore, they’ll encounter supernatural phenomena and unravel a dark and intricate storyline involving occult rituals, ancient powers… and worse.
If this all sounds like many other survival-horror games you’ve played, it’s because Alone in the Dark was a huge influence on many other survival-horror games you’ve played– namely the Resident Evil series. We can’t wait for the return of this genre-defining classic very soon in 2024.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden
February 13, 2024
Developer/Publisher “Don’t Nod” (Life is Strange, Vampyr) announced the delay of their latest supernatural action-RPG in September; describing the delay as an effort to avoid an “intense release cycle for AAA titles”. If you don’t already know, here’s what the game is all about:
New Eden, 1695. Antea Duarte and Red mac Raith are lovers and Banishers, ghost-hunters who vowed to protect the living from the threat of lingering ghosts and specters. Following a disastrous last mission, Antea is fatally wounded, becoming one of the spirits she loathes. In the haunted wilds of North America, the couple desperately searches for a way to liberate Antea from her new plight.
We’re looking forward to experience yet another immersive and emotional choice-driven mystery when Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden releases very soon. Fortunately, we don’t have much longer to wait!
Destiny 2: The Final Shape
June 4, 2024
The Final Shape is an expansion, not an entirely new game, but it contains enough content to be one. This will be the eighth Destiny 2 expansion; the twelfth of the franchise. And the final entry in The Light and Darkness Saga.
What can we expect? Like previous expansions, there’ll be new locations to explore, new Supers, a new raid, and of course lots of tantalizing new Exotic weapons. The release of The Final Shape will also kick off a year-long event with new episode-based content. Here’s how it’ll work:
Starting in 2024, Episodes will be replacing Seasons as our new way of storytelling and content update format for Destiny 2. Each Episode will contain new story content and rewards, including a new Exotic mission, Exotic weapon and armor. Episodes will be in three Acts; with a new Act releasing every six weeks—containing new stories, quests, activities, weapons, artifact mods, pass ranks, and rewards.
You’ll definitely want to be part of the action from day one when The Final Shape finally drops next year.
Dragon’s Dogma 2
Mar 21, 2024
This eagerly anticipated sequel expands on everything that everyone loved about the first game. Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be a single-player, narrative-driven experience that gives the player more freedom than ever before; from your appearance, to party members, to combat tactics, to vocation.
Set in a rich and immersive fantasy realm, players embark on a gripping adventure as the “Arisen”, a chosen hero tasked with defeating a new and formidable threat to the world. The innovative pawn system returns, enabling players to recruit companions with distinct personalities and skills. Dragon’s Dogma 2 promises an epic journey, blending captivating storytelling, dynamic gameplay, and breathtaking visuals to deliver an unforgettable role-playing experience.
If you haven’t yet, you should do yourself a favor and play the original Dragon’s Dogma. It’s a must-play for any RPG fan, and is currently on sale over in the CDKeys store.
Earth Defense Force 6
July 25, 2024
This is your chance, well 6th chance, to “to save our mother Earth from any alien attack!”. Earth Defense Force 6 continues the beloved series’ tradition of intense, over-the-top action as players join the ranks of the EDF to battle against an onslaught of gigantic alien insects and colossal monsters threatening humanity. Again.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
February 29, 2024
If you haven’t heard, Developer/Publisher Square Enix has been hard at work remaking Final Fantasy VII; a game that many consider to be one of the greatest of all time. They’re doing things a little differently too, by stretching the original into a much larger trilogy. We got the first chunk of the remake in 2020, entitled “Final Fantasy VII Remake”, and “Rebirth” is right around the corner.
Set in the dystopian city of Midgar, players follow the story of Cloud Strife, a former soldier turned mercenary, as he joins a group called Avalanche to thwart the nefarious Shinra Electric Power Company’s exploitation of the planet’s resources. It’s a fantastic story that weaves themes of personal redemption, political intrigue, and environmental crisis seamlessly together. It’s definitely an experience that any gamer should experience if they can.
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn
July 18, 2024
Open-world games take a long time to develop, and Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn ended up needing even more time than developer A44 (creators of Ashen) expected. This ambitious next-gen release will tell the story of humanity’s last stand with visceral action-RPG gameplay in a world where Gods and guns collide. Yeah, we’re definitely keeping an eye on this one ahead of the estimated release of “Q3 2024”.
Hades II
May 6, 2024
As the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed roguelike masterpiece, Hades 2 plunges players back into the captivating world of Greek mythology with even more depth and innovation. Building upon the success of its predecessor, the game follows the god-born protagonist Zagreus on a new odyssey through the underworld. With improved visuals and expanded narrative elements, Hades 2 delves deeper into the complex relationships between gods and mortals; offering players a compelling story woven into slick and stylish roguelike gameplay.
Hollow Knight: Silksong
2024
This is the year! It’s really going to happen! Right? I have to admit, after so many delays, and after how amazing the original Hollow Knight was– our expectations for Silksong are incredibly high.
Silksong, the full-fledged sequel to Hollow Knight, has been delayed, nearly cancelled, yet never forgotten by the series’ hardcore fans. With the assumption that it will be half as good as the original game, it’s easy to see why.
And if you’re unfamiliar, Hollow Knight is a side-scrolling platformer with RPG elements that has received loads of awards and critical acclaim. Don’t let the 2-D style fool you into thinking the game is simple. Hollow Knight is rich with atmosphere, lore, and satisfyingly tight combat against a wide variety of enemies (and bosses). The game’s expertly crafted “Metroidvania”-styled worlds offer countless hours of backtracking, secret finding, and exploration.
Homeworld 3
May 13, 2024
The latest entry in the Homeworld series (debuting way back in 1999) will also drop in 2024. Originally published by Sierra Games (just like Hlaf-Life), Homeworld 3 is being backed by Gearbox this time around (just like Half-Life Opposing Force).
This third installment in the real-time strategy series will feature more of what the franchise is known for: tactical, beautiful, and unique RTS gameplay in a captivating sci-fi setting. Take control of entire armadas of spacecraft and wage war in fully 3D space at a galactic scale very soon in 2024.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
January 26, 2024
As a spin-off within the Yakuza series, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth takes the franchise from the concrete jungle of Japan to the sandy shores of Hawaii. Featuring the unlikely duo of Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu, you’ll live it up in typical over-the-top Yakuza fashion in an RPG adventure “so big it spans the Pacific.”
Set in a vibrant urban landscape, players take on the role of a savvy entrepreneur looking to build a financial empire. The game introduces a compelling mix of resource management, tactical decision-making, and, of course, the dramatic (often wacky) storytelling that the Yakuza series is known for.
Little Nightmares III
2025
As the third installment in the atmospheric horror puzzle-platformer series, Little Nightmares III maintains the hauntingly captivating essence that fans have come to love. Prepare to embark on an all-new adventure that will return players to a world that’s as charming as it is terrifying.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Nov 19, 2024
Four years after the last critically acclaimed release, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 promises to take the legendary flight simulation franchise to new heights. We have no doubt that, like all the other editions before it, Flight Simulator 2024 will be another unparalleled virtual aviation experience that you can’t really get anywhere else… except, well, in flight school.
Pragmata
2024
Pragmata is a brand-new game from Capcom.
Oh, you need more? Well, there’s actually not a whole lot of info available at the moment. But what we do know is that Pragmata will be a sci-fi action-adventure game. It will also be set in a dystopian near-future in a unique lunar world. It looks mysterious, atmospheric, and very Hideo Kojima-esque to be quite honest. We’re looking forward to the next info drop on this one!
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
January 18, 2024
2024 marks the return of yet another beloved gaming franchise. Players will embark on a perilous quest to reclaim that titular powerful artifact, and live an epic adventure along the way. Fans of the series, old and new, won’t want to sleep on this.
Princess Peach Showtime!
March 22, 2024
Princess Peach Showtime! takes players on another delightful adventure in the Mushroom Kingdom. This time around, Princess Peach will be departing from the usual damsel-in-distress role, and stepping into the limelight as the star of her own show; showcasing her diverse talents in a series of entertaining challenges. The game combines platforming elements with mini-games and puzzles, allowing players to explore Peach’s unique abilities and engage in a variety of fun activities. With colorful visuals, catchy music, and a lighthearted tone, “Princess Peach Showtime!” offers a refreshing and empowering take on the iconic character.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II
May 21, 2024
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II builds on the groundbreaking psychological storytelling of its predecessor, offering an even more immersive and visually stunning experience. Which… we’re honestly not sure if we can handle…
Developed by Ninja Theory, the game once again follows the troubled Celtic warrior Senua as she continues to grapple with mental illness and the hordes of supernatural horrors that are manifested.
With a focus on intense combat, intricate puzzles, and a narrative that delves deeper into Senua’s psyche, Hellblade II promises to be a gripping and emotionally charged journey. The game’s commitment to portraying mental health challenges with sensitivity and depth sets it apart, making it not only a visually impressive action-adventure but also a thought-provoking exploration of the human mind.
Skull & Bones
February 16, 2024
Skull & Bones has been on our “Most Anticipated” lists for several years now… But we think it’s actually going to come out in 2024. Really.
Set sail for an immersive experience centered around the high seas and the Golden Age of Piracy! Players will take command of their very own ship, allowing them to customize and upgrade it to suit their playstyle. With intense naval combat, (against both AI-controlled and player-controlled adversaries), and open-world exploration (across the Indian Ocean), Skull & Bones promises to deliver a comprehensive pirate experience.
Long story short– Skull and Bones looks to be a combination of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Sea of Thieves… and we’re definitely into that.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl
September 5, 2024
Yet another fan-favorite series will return in 2024! … barring any further delays…
The dread-filled, post-apocalyptic world of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will eventually arrive on Game Pass and as a stand-alone game. You can look forward to “one of the biggest open-worlds to date, filled with radiation, mutants, and anomalies.”
“S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl” is the highly anticipated sequel to the “S.T.A.L.K.E.R.” series; known for its atmospheric and immersive open-world gameplay set in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. Developer GSC Game World is at the helm, and will continue the series’ tradition of blending first-person shooter elements with survival horror in a post-apocalyptic setting.
Star Wars Outlaws
August 30, 2024
Star Wars Outlaws takes players on a thrilling journey to the gritty and lawless fringes of a galaxy far, far away. Developed as an action-RPG open-world adventure, the game allows players to step into the boots of a renegade bounty hunter navigating the seedy underbelly of the Star Wars universe.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
January 30, 2024
After a tumultuous, decade-long development process, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is actually almost here. As huge fans of the Arkham games also developed by Rocksteady Studios, we have to admit that all the delays have built our hopes pretty darn high for this sequel. It’s also worth noting that 3 of those Arkham games were released in the time it has taken to produce Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. With fingers intensely crossed, we’re eagerly awaiting this to finally drop in February.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League features an original story set within an expansive open-world city in which you’ll, you guessed it, attempt to kill the world’s greatest DC Super Heroes. Oh, and did we mention there’s an invading alien force and an explosive planted in your head? Yeah, you might want to take care of that too.
Tekken 8
January 26, 2024
The next chapter of one of the most legendary fighting game franchises of all time is nearly upon us. Vivid environments, redesigned character animations, ultra-detailed models, destructible environments, and more will redefine fighting games as we know them.
Whether you’re a Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, or Tekken fan… you have to admit– we’ve come a long way since the arcade days of 1994. Now can we get a remake of Killer Instinct next??
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
2024
Finally, say hello to yet another game on this list with a tumultuous, delay-riddled development process (that now created extremely high expectations for itself). As fans of the original game, we’ve kept the hype alive, year after year, for this next entry in the series… and it appears the time has finally come!??
The game seamlessly blends first-person action, deep storytelling, and a complex web of vampire politics. With a narrative that reacts to player choices and a city that evolves based on their actions; Bloodlines 2 looks like it’ll be a dynamic and immersive experience… that we really, really hope we can actually play in 2024.
